Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to embark on their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group enter places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This means them little choice but to head to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
