Ten found guilty of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for carrying out the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced accusations of disseminating fabrications regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the couple's 24-year age gap.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A circulating false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's gender.
Their legal filing alleges that Owens ignored all credible evidence disproving her claim in favour of give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has often echoed these assertions on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her current spouse when she was a teacher at his lycée.
The couple married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
