This appeared to have sealed a vital win for Nuno's side in their battle against the drop. The Seagulls, stirred by the conceded goal, pressed forward, going close when Maximilian Kilman almost turned the ball into his own net.

Given that stoppage-time drama are commonplace at the Amex Stadium, the faithful kept a sliver of expectation. Their belief was rewarded in during dying moments. In a chaotic goalmouth melee, Jan Paul van Hecke showed calm to pass the ball across the six-yard box, where Georginio Rutter was on hand to thunder it into the roof of the net. The leveler sparked rapturous scenes from the home players and fans, while it was a severe blow to West Ham's safety bid.
This point does little to alleviate the relegation fears for the London club, who remain firmly involved in the fight at the foot of the Premier League. Meanwhile for Brighton, it is another example of their resilient attitude, but also highlights the inconsistency that are holding back their campaign.
